Default A Brag and a Gloat :)

G'day all,
Just couldn't let this one go with out gloating a bit.

A carpenter mate of mine was re-stumping a house, and dropped of about a dozen of the old stumps. They are Sandlewood and about 100 years old, so I'll see what I can come up with to use them on.
Roughly 2' long and about 4" - 6" across.

I don't know what it'll look like, as I've never seen any finished, but I do know the shed 'll smell sweet.

John,
You like doing that to us don't you. Throw those Aussie thingies at us just to tweak our grey cells (what little is left)
You really need to explain this one.

Coming from redneckville, I think I can answer that for you. Lots of old houses with wood floors are supported by timber stumps. If they rot your floor starts reaching to the ground! So then you pull out the old stumps and put new ones in, or bricks, or whatever you wanna use.

G'day all,
Magpie got it right.
Just about all houses in Oz, have timber stumps supporting the floors, eg those built prior to the early 70's when concrete slabs became the norm, especially with brick homes.

Most of the stumps in the South West of the State are 4" x 4" dressed Jarrah with a tin plate on the top, this prevents white ants from getting into the bearers and floor joists.

I outback regions like Kalgoorlie stumps where made of what ever was available, usually Mulga or Sandlewood as Mulga is too hard for the whiteants and they don't much like the taste of sandlewood.

My wifes old house was built on Locust posts. By white ants I assume we call those termites.

John you really need to teach a Aussie as a second language course.

Sweet, free wood!! Don't forget to use your metal detector before inserting said free wood into a saw blade!

Sounds like John is an ant racist. Here in michigan we never judge our ants by their colors, just by the content of their character.
