| bubinga wood? I have a chunk of bubinga (or so it says on the end of it...) wood that is almost 2" thick. It would probably be great for turning, but alas! I don't have a lathe and don't forsee getting one in the near or far future. So, I would end up trying to cut it into 1/3rds on my band saw (with a very dull blade)....
Anyway ~ does anyone have any ideas on what price I could put on a piece of wood 1 7/8 x 3 1/8 x 17 15/16 if I were to put it up for sale? oh - there is a 1" splinter missing from one corner.
thanks..

| Theresa...$10-15 plus shipping I think would be quite reasonable for those interested. Several small bowls could out of that piece.
Yes, it would be good for turning and No it would not be good to cut with dull bandsaw blade. Similiar to Red Oak. With a sharp blade you could cut it up for Intarsia project but turning would be the best way to use that piece.

| Don't know if this helps but there's a much bigger piece on ebay at the moment currently $19 with 4 hrs to go.
Bubinga varies a lot in appearance - highly figured pommele bubinga goes for more money ...
West Pen Hardwoods prices, for instance range from $12 to $26 per board foot depending on the figuring/grade. You have a bit under threequarters of a board foot there if I did my sums right ..

| I checked through ebay this morning and didn't find anything comparable in size. I found thinner stock, and pen blanks, hmmm will have to check again.
Ian - your math is right.
Paul - your price matched what I was thinking, so maybe I'm in the right ballpark. |

| Ian - I went back and saw the piece you were talking about - nice piece of wood!
And I was hoping my chunk of wood would fit in the flat rate priority box, but it's a couple inches too long.. |

| You are selling the piece?? If it were mine, I would make 3D pieces out of it after squaring it up on the tablesaw, or maybe mini-scrollsaw boxes. Bubinga is a pretty wood.
If you are selling it, you could offer the option to save on shipping by having the piece crosscut free of charge, or trim off the splintered edge just enough to make it fit the box. USPS and UPS used to also have a triangular box that was about 3 feet long, and I think the USPS one was a flat rate, or a priority box. Dale |

| A 1&1/2 by 1 &1/2 by 18 inch turning square is $8 at woodworkerssource.
( I don't have any easy way to square it off.) Send it to me, Ill square it up and send it back!
edit:
I just looked at woodngoods, I think your lion is a steal at that price, you should have no trouble getting that for it,I'd ask more myself. Also, have you sold much on ebay, and how did that go?

| I may take you up on the offer Dale if I cant sell it as is.
Thanks for the comments on the lion. I had an offer for a trade on it, but I'm holding out for some cash right now. I just opened the Etsy store and haven't sold anything off it yet. But there has been some interest.
