| Where to find really white aspen? I've seen some beautiful pictures of aspen that is pure creamy white (such as some of the puzzles in the Peterson scroll saw puzzle book series.) However, I can't seem to find any source for such wood; the aspen I have seen online doesn't look white at all. Any ideas? |

I cannot tell from your public profile where you live, but if you happen to reside in souther Ontario Canada I can tell you that I bought White Aspen from this place http://www.exotic-woods.com/aboutus.html
and it is as pure white as I would expect from any wood.
They also have a picture of their woods on their site but you cannot really go by the color on the web page. I personally went to their place of business and boutght all kinds of various color woods. If possible,I suggest you go to the vendor and not necessarily order over the internet .... that way you can see what you are buying.
Good luck
Bob

| I second Bob's advise - go to a place where you can actually see the wood. Even if you can find a place on the internet where the wood looks white, those most likely won't be the actual boards that are sent to you.
If you are in the States, you can go to www.woodfinder.com and put in your zip code - that will bring up a number of places near you that sells wood.

| I'm in Southern California. I've checked the local dealers and never seen any. Maybe I'll have more luck on my next trip to Washington! |

| Hi Cris. I checked the web pages for Ganahl in the O.C. and Cherokee Lumber out here in the I.E. Nothing with either of them. |

I sticker dried this pile of white aspen outside my shop about 5 or 6 years ago. What the picture doesn't show is that the pile is four boards deep from the front to the back of the pile . 2.5" thick boards at the bottom and vaying thickness up to 1" thick at the top. I have used most of it myself and some I have exchanged small quantities of with some lathe turners in exchange for some woods that they have that I didn't have. Turners do a lot of that sort of thing so we always have a nice free supply of different woods.
Too bad you are so far away because the price of shipping is getting out of hand these days and it is putting the price of wood way up.
Most of the aspen I have seen or heard about in Canada has been white or very close to it as a light cream color. I don't know if there are different species of it way down south where you live or not . Hope you are successful in finding some that is suitable for your purposes.
