| Max thickness of metal and blade required I was asked by a friend if I could cut a pattern for him from thick metal? I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I own a Hawl 16, and would like some information. I believe the thickness is about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick.
Thanks,

| I have cut heavy aluminum from a stopsign with a scroll saw. It wasn't quite that thick though.
A metal blade is a must I ended up going through tons of regular blades.
I also purchased some Jr. Hacksaw blades that were 6" long with pins in them. I cut them down to 5" and they worked quite well for roughing out.
You do have to be carful of the fillings that accumulate.

| Thank-you for your help and knowledge. I will have to look for some Jr. hacksaw blades and give it a try. I know how safe we all have to be around metal and even wood.
Thanks again,

| It's gonna be a ring dinger for sure! I was trying to cut 3/4 aluminum and it was taking all day to go 1/8" I tried several blades including metal blades, but not hacksaw blades. I ended up using a drill and playing connect the dots, then ground my way to victory "American Chopper" style. I still have 2 more pieces I need to cut, but from 1/2" aluminum. I can't wait till that day arrives. Don't forget the gloves. I wear gloves in my gloves and that isn't really enough. Metal gets hot fast.

| The only piece of metal I've cut (besides quarters) was about 1/32" thick. I used a metal cutting blade and still had to take it really slow and easy. I wouldn't dare trying anything as thick as you are talking, but it may be possible with the right tools.

| Thanks for the info and suggestions. Im going to cut down some hack saw blades that will fit my old band saw and see what happens. I will have to keep the blade cool, but it might work. What the heck, thats what makes it a learning experience.
