I have not tried it but I would think you could you could mix stainable wood glue ( think they make that) or CA (crazy glue) with saw dust from the plywood. Try it on a small piece.

Let me know how you make out.

hello- i just finished installing a staircase. the mill shop that made the staircase gave me an alcohol based wood stain. it was red oak, and it was labeled as stainable. i used it for the first time today. it was very soft, like somewhere in between spacle and a normal woodfiller. the shop mgr told me to work fast with it, and not to leave it uncovered for a long period of time. the color match was fantastic. i shot the spindle tops into the handrail, then filled the holes with this. it was amazing, i will send you the brand name tomorrow.another trick that will work is to get sawdust, cut the bottom of a soda can. clean it and put the sawdust in the can. add stain stir the dust till stain is absorbed. cook with heat gun, or hair dryer. it will dry and slightly dull. mix it with 5 minute clear epoxy. fill hole lightly sand like 400ish. stain again, if neccesary, add finish. it works. doug

Did I learn about voids this week. I was making a project from Jeff Paxton's "Words of Faith in Wood" as a birthday present. Not much surface area so used some cheapo (found) oak ply for the cutting. Stacked two so I would have a spare on hand. After cutting there were several voids. I carefully tried to fill them with putty. Got them pretty well finished and picked one up and it broke apart where the voids were. Carefully tried the second and guess I must have breathed as it fell apart as well. Ended up giving him the one I had hanging on my wall. So much for trying to use something cheap.
