Default Clocks?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to scroll sawing. I have been looking through the gallery and noticed some really cool clocks. I think I would like to take a shot at making one. I just wonder where do you get the clock inserts? I would like to find someplace online to just look through to see what kind/types of clocks that I could work with..

Thanks,

there are lots and lots of Web Stores that sell clock kits. The problem is tracking the prices they charge, and the quality you get.

But some places to start you looking:
Klockit: http://www.klockit.com/default.aspx

Steebar: http://www.steebar.com/

Woodcrafters: http://www.woodcraft.com/

Wildwood designs: http://www.wildwooddesigns.com/

Some like Bear Woods Supply: http://www.bearwood.com/
(note: be sure you get the correct web page, US, or Canada/International for the prices in USD, or CDN.)

BTW: on the left hand side of this forum site, there is a section call Scroll Saw Community. Look under that section for the link called Other Great sites. Work you way thru to the retail on line shops, many of them also carry clock kits.

Other members of this forum will chime in with their recommendations.

Be aware, there have been reports this holiday season of slow response time from both Steebar, and Wildwood design. I have never heard of a complaint against Klockit that wasn't resolved quickly. Klockit is very slightly more expensive. Also sometimes a better product.

Looks like Phil covered it pretty well, and I would also echo what Phil said about Klockit, a great company with great products. Dale

I would also add that you should make sure of the clock size and depth before you purchase. Your pattern should tell you that.

For simple inserts, you'll need some forstner bits. Just buy a set; they come in handy for lots of stuff. Use them only in a drill press, though.

The bigger, fancier clocks don't use inserts. They use mechanisms that are behind the face, with only the stem for the hands poking through. Again, make sure that the one you get will fit the pattern you're using.

Both Klockit and Wildwood will mention the correct insert size or recommended mechanism for the pattern when you buy it.

Default Clocks Clocks and more Clocks.

Hey Clocks are my main habit. I get most of my inserts and mechanisms from Wildwood and Klockit. I think Klockit has better quality mechanisms. But that's just my opinion. I do a lot of the mini clocks, and few of the large ones. Good luck and welcome, to the family.

Happy clockmaking mowerman. Once you decide which clock/clocks you are going to tackle, post that info in here, that way if any of us have done that particular clock we can offer advice, hints, or help. Dale
