Question What type of wood should I use??

I am planning on making an outdoor scroll saw type project. I know I am going to use 1/2 plywood. Does anyone have any suggestions on an outdoor type plywood that might hold up in the weather? The finished project will be in the sun for part of the day and in the shade in the latter half of the day. I am in Georgia, so right now it is as hot as the sun outside and we do get a good bit of humidity. (That is an understatement if I ever heard one!!) We don't have any real wood suppliers here where I live. I am pretty well limited to the "big box" home stores, so my selections of wood are somewhat limited. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I would suggest a marine grade plywood for a project that is going to stay out in the weather. It will hold up to the elements a lot longer than an untreated plywood. Steve

Scott,
If you are going to paint the project I would suggest MDO. If you are going to stain it I would go with Steve and the Marine grade.

Hey guys. Thanks for the responses. Well, I have checked both of my home stores here in town and they didn't carry any marine grade plywood or any MDO. The closest thing I found was an exterior grade rated pine plywood. Any advice on it? They also had a treated plywood, which in my opinion looked pretty nasty!! I am planning on priming and painting the finished project. Thanks again for the quick responses. Oh one other thing Stevie. I checked out your online gallery. I loved the saws you did. They look awesome. I am gonna have to try one of those soon.

Scott,
The exterior grade plywood should be OK. Make sure you seal the end grain well. Most of your plywood failures start there. Use a good oil based primer and after completion several coats of exterior urethane will help. Good luck. Might want to check with MAC for other suggestions.

Hi Scott, thanks for the compliments on my work. I agree with Tom if those are your choices of wood, and Mac will have the answers to a good outside finish. Steve
