Exclamation Fake Burl

I was just wondering if this can be done. Sense burl for some of us is to expensive to buy. Can or has anybody thought of taking a picture of a piece of burl wood. Then put a piece of 1/16 of wood 8"x11" in a copier and print the photogragh on to it. If someone has how did it turn out? Just a thought for us poor folks.

Im not sure many good quality color copiers would take in a piece of veneer without jamming up the machine. MacS has many faux finishing tips that could teach anyone how to create a faux burl piece. Dale

Default Simulating Faux Burling

Bandit,

It a fairly easy faux finish to do This should help you understand what is involved in creating faux finishes..

You wil firstl need to make up an opaque background base color, then you will need an Acrylic clear aerosol to seal in the dried back ground base color.

You will need to make up a "colored glaze," you will need a small tube of an Artist Oil paste colorant, this can be purchased at any arts and craft shop, you will need a small container of water to add the paste colorant to make up a "glazing" solution.

If you going to work on large areas you need to get a small bottle of glycerine to addin to the Acrylic glaze to allow extra working time..

The glaze is applied will a balled cloth, dabbing up and down to add an antiquing appearance on the base color, then using the same glazing liquid add some more paste colorant to darken the glaze. Use an old tooth brush to flick off the "dots" over the mottled glaze, and then allow to dry, and the final step is to apply your Acrylic clear coats to protect the burl finish.

If you intend to create your own faux burling, let me know and I will give you the formulary for the glaze, and some additional information.
