Unhappy Price jumps on BB reported on other forums.

Just a heads up:

On other forums, there is a report of a large increase of price for Baltic Birch or Russian Birch plywood starting in the summer of 2007.

Pick your own reasons for the price increase:
- Export Taxes
- transportation cost from the Baltic States, and former USSR to ports in North America
- Harvesting quantity of wood is down.
- Increase in demand of Russian plywood worldwide
- Plywood importers have read the book by Big Oil on how to charge more money (claim increase is caused by taxes, demand, production rates, transportation, etc.)

A published report:

(There has been a delay in the price jump as inventory is depleted and restocked.)

Phil,

You forgot to mention the decline in the US dollar against the Euro.
Today it cost $ 1.375 to buy one Euro. 7 Years ago it was even.

Why would that affect the price of BB though, Mike? There's only Finland in the Baltic area uses the Euro, as far as I know ..

Mike:

I appreciate what you are saying: Your cost for your scroll saw blades have gone up over 30%. Plus the cost of postage rates have gone up also lately.

You are caught between the prices charged by competitors, and cost of purchasing quality product from an EU factory. That has to be a tight squeeze on your business.

Just please don't cave to cheaper Asian producers with a lower quality product just to keep the prices low.
