Question Meranti wood.

Hey guys.

Has anyone used the wood "Meranti" for craft work. I was at Home Depot today to refresh my plywood supply for the boxes I am making and I noticed the 1/4 sheets of Meranti were only about 1/4 of the cost of the same sheet of 1/4 inch birch.

I don't think I would use it for the portraits but I think for the boxes it may be fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Kerry,
I have used Meranti ply on the backs of cabinets but not for scrolling.
It does tend to splinter easily and getting a good edge is not always easy on a saw.

OK...that is probably why no one uses it much for scrolling. Thanks for the input bud.
