| Zebra Wood I am planning to use a nice size piece of Zebra wood in my next project. I would like to inlay it into a border, but I am racking my brains to find a good complimentary wood. Has anybody scrolled Zebra wood before?

| While it tends to splinter and chip on you, I do like Zebrano. It is softer than some woods, harder than others
I agree with lucky788's recommendations, but will toss maple and hickory into the mix as contrasting lighter woods. Good luck! |

| Splinter Should I worry about the Zebra wood holding fine detail at the edges? I have never scrolled the wood before and I'm trying to get an idea of it's characteristics before I whip out the blades.
The project will be the shape of a state inlaid into a blended color. I would like either the dark lines or the lighter color to blend into the border to give an illusionary effect. Hickory might work, but it also tends to splinter.

| I've used zebrawood for a few projects and find it is easy to cut, but if and when you are cutting with the grain, the grain is strong and your blade has a good tendency to follow the grain. Also, depending on what you are doing with it, sanding it can be tricky. It seems like a stringy wood and if you are shaping the wood, that's when it gets stringy. If you are sanding it flat and perpendicular to the grain, you shouldn't have a problem.
My last project with it, I used it with eastern flamed maple. It was a good contrasting wood since its "flames" complimented the stripes on the zebrawood.
