Default The "knees from the trees."

I know what "cypress tree knees" are from chatting with Diane Thompson.

The "knees" comes from the connections of the trees branches.

Cypress knees are actually part of the roots of a cypress tree that protrude above the water line. They come from the "bald cypress" which grows in swamps down south. I once had one that was 45" tall and 10" at the base. Many woodcarvers like them for carving wood sprites.

Default Cypress

Neal,

Thanks.

I'm sure your right about where the cypress knees come from, its a southern thing.

I do remember Diane telling me that she was going to pick some up, maybe she used the "knees" for her 3D pieces.

I don't know if Diane carved, but she sure is talented.

Regards,
