Hi all
I have just signed on as a member of this forum. I live in northwestern Alberta, Canada and have been scrollsawing for about 2 years with a Delta ss250. I have started in the last year to make some of the big clocks from Wildwood Designs and am presently waiting for the Daniel wall clock pattern from them and have a question about assembly of this pattern. When I ordered the pattern the ratings for this clock said that the instructions for installing the face were next to impossible to do and the rater had recieved instructions from another scroller on an easier method. Does anyone here know of this method? Thanks.

Im sorry I cant help you with directions for that, but welcome to the forum.You are doing a really fancy clock there, I am looking at it in the catalog right now.Once you get the pattern, it should say who the designer is, and I can help you find more info from them hopefully, or maybe get you contact info for them. Welcome to the forum.

I am sure you will get lots ofhelp on your clock assembly instructions.
Scrolling is a great hobby. I still use a Delta SS250 it is a nice little saw for the money.

Hi Al. Welcome to the group. I am not sure this is the same clock your are talking about. but Yes It is a bear to put together. But fun. this is what I did. IT has alot of tabs. cut them off. just what I would have done, If I knew better. I find thats the hardiest thing. to fit up nice. but it holds together nice with out the tabs. the back holds it together just fine. I made mine a shadow box , for I really did not like the clock thing. on this project. just cut the tabs off. and glue it together. and it will be fine. here is a pictuer of mine. your new freind Evie Ps I cut mine out of 100 year old quorter sawn white oak. and stained it with walnut. looks really old huh.

I made a Daniel a couple of years ago and remember a problem with mounting the dial & bezel. I can't remember all the problems with that mounting but I do remember that if you use the hinged bezel they suggest there will be a clearance problem. If you haven't already ordered the dial/bezel, you may be better off with a friction fit one instead of a hinged one. I seem to remember not only having a problem mounting the bezel but also being able to open the bezel after it was mounted. You can pre-mount the movement and hands, but I'd feel bad if I made something and if the person receiving it had to get into it down the road but couldn't.

I agree with Evie on the tabs. Look over the plans very long and hard before starting. If I were to do another one, I would eliminate all the tabs that the designer built into plan. They're nice in that they line up the pieces you're putting together, but to me they weren't worth the trouble. I much prefer working with a long straight machined edge and pay a little more attention gluing it up than trying to cut long straight mating pieces on the scroll saw because of tab(s) sticking out. You have the plan to help you line the pieces up. I've already copied and redrawn my plan so that if I do make another one, the tabs (and corresponding slots) are gone. Overall, in my mind, it just looks cleaner that way.

. The clock pattern is on order along with a hinged bezel and I think I will try to use it. I may be able to alter the pattern some to make it fit. The wood I will be using will be black walnut with BLO/MS to bring up the grain and lacquer as a final finish. Evie, that is the same clock that you made into a shadow box. I like the job you did on it give me an idea for something to make as a gift for someone.
