Woodex 05 - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Message Board

Over the weekend I visited one of the major woodworking exhibitions in the UK, Woodex 05. It was fun! Every year they have a competition and display entries; I'm not sure about the terms of the competition but some of the exhibits appealed to me enormously. It was great to see that the amount of scrolled work was up dramatically on the previous year. Here are some photographs (I'd have posted more but there's a maximum of 4 per post, including smileys):

All these barrows are made from a different type of wood. Apparently, it takes the guy who makes them about 8 hours per barrow and he reckons his collection is only half finished! It's an impressive sight, but some of us wonder about his sanity.

Oh, and I bought Kity 419 tablesaw with extension and sliding carriage. As I said, it was a good show!

Looks like about 400 wheelbarrows and 3200 hours. I might question his sanity but certainly not his dedication!!! Great pictures Gill. Thanx for sharing.

WOW!! Those are fantastic!

Thanks for sharing the photos. I love looking at others work. It inspires me. I noticed the chess set. That is a Dan and Ray Wilckens design and have that pattern and some day want to scroll that one. They are known for their intense fret work and I am working on one of their clocks called the Boussom and it has more cutouts than the Dome clock. I happen to also notice the wrist watch on the table. I am proud to say I did the prototype of that watch and it is a Steebar exclusive and designed by John Nelson. It is good to see the pattern made it all the way to the UK.

I'd like to have a go at that chess set myself one day. Can you direct me to the plans, please?

Since I've not used up my allowance of photographs on this post, here are some more piccies of exhibits that I liked at Woodex:

The wheel was rotating as I took the photograph.

I'm a sucker for marquetry and this miniature was exquisite! I wouldn't fancy inlaying all those shrouds and windows.

I thought the students of Dudley College had achieved a very high standard, especially considering that most of them will only be 16 to 18 years old.

I also have that ferris wheel plan along with the merry go round and one other but they are not high on my list yet.
