Default Im new with many ??'s

Hello my name is Charlie and im new to scrolling, while im not new to woodworking, I do Pyrography(fairly new) general woodworking, making outdoor furniture as well as shelving, benches and boxes for indoors. I bought a scroll saw and now subscribe to this magazine, i made the butterfly box that was on the cover of the latest issue. although I made it before the corrections came it still came out nice, and gave it to my 16 year old daughter who loved it (well at least she told me she did anyway!) One of my questions is "what is meant by fretwork" i have more questions and will post later, thanks for your answers in advance, and hope to learn a lot about this craft from this forum!

Welcome to the best forum out there. You will find all the info you will need to help you get started on your journey to the most addictive hobby out there. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in the threads all you have to do is ask. The scrollers on this forum are the best and don’t mind helping.
If someone has great passion for what they do, it is not considered work

Fretwork is the process of cutting out sections of wood in a pattern to reveal an image. You will notice that most of the talk in these forums refer to fretwork. There are many other uses for a scroll saw including: Making toys, making bowls, compound cutting, segmentation, intarsia, inlay, lettering and sign making.

Hi, Charlie, and welcome to the forum. Jim pretty much answered your question on fretwork, and there is an entire subforum here on the topic, which you can explore if interested.

One of the great things about scrolling is the variety of project types/techniques which can be accomplished.

Also, if you are new to pyrography, Fox Chapel has a periodic publication (not sure of the frequency), and a website/forum on this as well: Pyrography Online

I hope you visit often, and share the projects you make. My personal expertise is more in jigsaw puzzles, and if you have any questions, let me know.
