Hi to all, I just joined the forum. I have been a wood worker for years, but relatively new to scrollsawing. I hope to learn from and sometimes add to the forum. I think it will be fun and informative. rj100

Hi rj! Glad you wanted to join! Like Dale said, just one big happy family here. What type saw do you have? Cut anything yet? can you post some pics? (we like pics....hint,hint... ) Didn't mean to play "21 questions" but the hard parts over (intros)... jump on in both feet! ![]() Jerry

Wlcome rj, There are a whole lot of very knowledgeable people that meet here. I think you can learn a few things I know I sure have. When you make something your kind of proud of how about showing us some pictures? We love pictures.

okay, i can't stand it. i've been lurking and now that i admit it, i feel better. i am a cumberland presbyterian minister in arkansas soon to be moving to central arkansas with my wonderful wife who abides my scrollsaw addiction. i figure if jesus was a carpenter then he probably did some scrollsawin' too. this "habit" keeps me sane and poor which are both requirements for being a minister in arkansas! i curse (on my days off) the man who showed me his scrollsaw, an excalibar, and said those words used by all who would tempt others to join their habit, "Here, sit down and try it." i did, and, well, okay i loved it. if i had known i was going to enjoy scrollsaw work so much, i would have spent more and got a good saw rather than the sears model. i have graduated to the kind of work where a better saw would help a bunch, but am in the early stages of convincing my wife "we" need a better saw. ya'll pray for me :-)! i am ashamed to post any of my work yet. so far, my wife's "oohing and ahhing" over my work is enough. i was surprised how quickly i realized that what i was doing was not actually "craft" work but "art" work. that surprised me because i am not an "artsy" type of guy, but, voila, there it came off the saw! cuuel. i want to say how much i've enjoyed the discussion group (AND the magazine!). i belong to a christian discussion group and often there is so much arguing and fighting that it was a joy and surprise to see how much sharing, love, help, and support can be found with you all. there IS a sermon there :-)! when i started this post i meant to keep it short; however, to tell any minister to "keep it short" JUST SO AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN! walk gently, jim |
