Default and another new member

Hello, I am new to "posting threads" and fairly fresh to scroll saws. I plan to learn a few things on this web site from time to time. I have not completed my wood workshop yet, but it is in the making. I do have a couple of old scroll saws, jig saws they were called when they were built.
I am not sure some here would consider them real scroll saws or not, but they have been handy to me on a couple of projects. They are both 24", one from the 1930's and one from the 1950's. Anyhow, just saying hello to you all!!

SkipTooth:

Welcome. As far as i am concerned, if your "old" saws have or hold a blade that goes up and down it is a saw.

I am retired and do woodwork as a hobby. The table saw I use is an old Rockwell Beaver, later to become Delta, I think. It uses a 9 inch blade, long our of fashion but the wings are cast iron, heavy and stable and I am very pleased with it so as I said, as far as I am concerned old only means old and new is not always good.

You came to the right site for good information from many people who have great things to let you in on and help with problems.

Good luck.

Woodie

Thanks for the welcomes!
georgewoodie, I appreciate and agree with your description of what defines a saw. I happen to prefer older iron myself. I certainly understand that the newer machines have time saving and downright handy features, but imo, they just don't have the style of the older machines! Plus, the old super heavy Craftsman jigsaw has a 16"x16" table! The other one is a 1930's Driver.

Both of my saws take 6" blades. I have found one place to buy some that size, but the tooth selection is limited. I think I will cut down some band saw blades to see what happens.

talk at you all later...
