Default Greetings From Bodfish, CA

Hello Everyone,

I know ---- Where the heck is Bodfish, CA ? It's an old town established during the California Gold Rush, and it's up in the Mountains (in the Sequoia Nat'l Forest), about 45 miles above Bakersfield, near Lake Isabella.(Named after the store owner, George Bodfish from the Goldrush days).

I recently retired, happily divorced for over 15 years, and want to take up something to keep my mind busy. I'm retired, but not yet ready for the Old Folks' Home! Other hobbies are photography (ex-Combat photographer & writer from the 173rd Airborne in Viet Nam); metal detecting (am a Civilian Volunteer with the Sheriff's Dept., Crime Scene Search Unit); and hiking / geology / prospecting.

I've never done anything with a scroll saw but have been thinking about buying one and getting started. Just like with anything else I don't jump into it without doing a little research. Haven't bought the scroll saw yet but I've purchased several books on the subject: "The Big Book of Weekend Woodworking" --- "Weekend Routing Projects" ----"Making Wood Signs" ---- "Fun and Easy Scroll Saw Projects" ---- just to name a few.
Yes, and I purchased a two year subscription to "ScrollSaw Woodworking & Crafts magazine". I'm also thinking of getting into Routing.

Just thought I'd drop in and say hello --- so "Hello"!

welcome to the site Socalal, you will get all the advice and help from members of this fine group, they are very professional, friendly and helpful. You will enjoy all of the different aspects of woodworking especially scrollsawing. routing is also very rewarding and a fine tool to enhance some of your projects. You are very smart by doing your homework before buying a scrollsaw or other big power tool. Look at some of the reviews written by the professionals and other woodworkers. Enjoy and start making some sawdust.

Welcome Socalal, I think you're gonna like it here and all the folks as well. A scrollsaw will be a great companion for you and you will always be the boss. Stick around and ask all the questions you'd like about scrolling and scrollsaws and the like. Someone here has the answers for you. Again, glad to have you on board. David
