Good Afternoon,

I will be joining the fold(errr scroll-fold??) with a new DeWalt 788 arriving tomorrow sometime...............

I have done a little bit of woodwork with both a Coping saw and Fret saw over the past thirty five years but am certain that much will be learned from the members here. Most of my work was/is rudimentary compared to the fine examples often posted.

Have some glued patterns, blades, and some other peripherals standing by for active service.

Pete

What kind (brand) of two sided tape do most of you use for your work. I just got back from a couple local stores and saw at least five differing kinds of double face tape; carpet, etc. etc.

Welcome to the crew Peter. What are you going to use the tape for? I use both the foam and carpet tape to stick small pieces onto a board to sand them. I tend to buy the better quality stuff as the cost is not that much for the little pieces I use.
I also use the foam tape to stick intarsia pieces on my camper inside walls, as it promotes sales when camping and people can see them. People see them and ask where I got them. Just use a long serrated bread knife to cut them off or you will damage the wall. Gee how do I know that?

Welcome to our little house of sawdust addicts...Once that saw gets here tomorrow you will soon be addicted as well. Remember to post lots of pics...We thrive on pics.

Double sided tape, unless you plan on using it for stack cutting no need for it. If you are stack cutting using double sided tape be sure it is only in the waste areas and don't use too much or you will have a devil of a time getting your stack to come apart..I have no Idea how I know that?

Welcome to the forum Pete.......wow how exciting waiting for a new saw.
I own one like it, and am very satisfied with it. Not being a complete newbie to scrolling you must have some project pictures to share with us. Love pictures around here.....gives food for thought. Try to get some sleep tonight, and have fun setting up your saw tomorrow.

congrats on the new toy! For pretty much all of the scrolling I do, I dont use double stick tape. I find just using masking tape along the edges holds my stack of wood together just fine. The double sided stuff is to hard to pull apart on most fretwork pieces without doing damage.

Thanks to all for the replies and suggestions!

Being a frugal chap, I am thinking that maybe the double sided tape would also work well on my woodlathe projects for holding the project wood to the faceplates!

I normally have used good old clear packing tape for my coping and fretsaw work, supplemented with a quick wipe of beeswax on the blade.

Most of my prior coping and fretwork involved using veneer, various metals, and a little Mother of Pearl & Abalone, nothing fancy.

Thanks for the warm welcome as I sit by the door awaiting my saw!!

Pete
