Default Introductory Post

Good Day, fellow scrollers. This is my first post to this forum and am looking forward to learning good things from the participants.
I am using a Hegner saw while coveting an Eclipse. (The Hegner is blowing sawdust directly into my face.) My current project is the Marc Tovar Wooden Gear Clock described in the Spring 2007 issue. With the right blade (#2 skip tooth) and a gentle touch it has been a pleasure to cut. I have redrawn the parts in CAD so I can make multiple copies. It has taken very little adjustment to make it run smoothly. I now must take it apart to apply the finish.
As well, I enjoy cutting Christmas Tree ornaments from thin plywood. They become nice inserts in Christmas cards and gifts when we go visiting.

Cheers

Thank you, Wood Dog and others for the welcome. The clock is proceeding but I dropped it when trying to hang it for the first time. Broke the 2nd wheel. After cutting a new 2nd wheel, try again. Find that the pallet is installed backward so the escapement is trying to stop the pendulum instead of assisting it. So a new pallet. It's a good thing I am retired, or this would take forever. But it is good practice following a line.

I am also familiar with the wood lathe so much of my summer woodworking is in the garage making shavings. But that would be a different magazine and forum (unless, of course, you could combine turning with the scrollsaw.)

Cal, get an aquarium pump to blow the sawdust away from you, all you need is to come down with some respiratory problem before your Eclipse saves you!

Thanks for the suggestion. I went down to the hardware store and bought some longer plastic hose and some brass fittings. I bent some 1/4" rod to support the contraption. Now the dust is going away. I think a fan with a filter over it would also be good to place beside the saw to draw the fine stuff away. Yes, the dust is dangerous. I purchased a helmet with filter for sanding on the lathe but the face shield distorts too much for the accurate vision needed for scrolling. Without the helmet I would have had to quit woodturning. Not a desirable option.

Cheers,
Calvin
