Default compliment

Did 2 shows the last 2 Sats. I had a man ask me if I cut my portraits and other art with a laser. I took it as a compiment or am I just looking for an ego boost? Anyway glad to be in this group.

A guy ask me the same thing last Saturday at my show. A lot of people have no idea what a scroll saw is and how it functions. My next show I am going to have a picture of my saw with a peace being cut so they will have a idea what is involved. One old guy told me it is nice to see people still use their hands to make things. So I consider it a compliment.

Welcome to the group jerog
I get that question at least once at every show but I think it is because we take the time to sand the fuzzies off and do a good job of finishing. I use ash usually and don't have many problems with fuzzies but if you take your time the smooth finish of your inside cuts give an appearance that they equate with lazer cuts.
once again welcome to the forum and post pictures!!!

Hi jerrog. welcome to the forum. and I would be thinking a complement as well. but then others have there own opinion. nothing wrong with wonting a ego boost. we all need uplifting. even when we know it all. not that I do. glad your hear. your new friend Evie

Hi Jerrog,

Since it was probably intended as a compliment, take it as one (on the other hand, if his nose was waving in the air as he sneered at your work, maybe not. I suspect you'd have figured that one out.)

Pete's idea to have a picture of the artist at work is a very good one. It makes it clear how things were made, that you did it, and that it wasn't automated.

Welcome jerrog,
It's a crazy ol' world when more people have heard of laser cutting than Scroll Saws.
It makes for an interesting market when people ask these types of questions.

I get asked 3 or 4 times per market if I have a laser, occasionally a water jet is mentioned and I've even been complimented on how sharp my chisels must be.
