And g'day to you, too, John.... ) .... Good to see _you're_ up and at 'em !!Hey...... no one's hiding 'roun' these parts !!!......But , I reckon you and your mates'll be hiding from that desert sun, eh !!! Gees, I'm off to Melbourne and the temps down _there_ are around 30C !! This next week I'm getting a sheet of 6mm 5 ply docked up for some 'chrissy' stuff. Haven't decided whether to get the 'hoop pine' ot the 'cedar'...( any thoughts ??).... I guess it's just the 'wood' finish colour, eh !!!.... or which'll take a stain better !!...?? Gonna cost $70 for the sheet and the bloke'll "dock" it up for me into 600cm pieces. I reckon that's OK......... What sort of price do you pay 'over there' in the desert. ?? cheers, .... Ray.

G'day Ray, Hiding from the sun is definitely on the cards mate. 37c here today, I think this summer is gonna be a warm one. With the ply, that sounds like pretty good prices to me. I bought a sheet of 6mm Merranti from Cullity Timbers (Laminex Ind) the other day and it cost me $49.00 and it really is a crap timber, but is all I could get locally. I haven't worked with either the Hoop pine or Cedar, but for staining I think I'd go Cedar, as pine can be a bugger to get an even covering. Keep on Keeping on Ray.

Just read your post. Thought I would throw in my two bobs worth... When I first started scrolling, (being green and not knowing much about products & costs etc.,) bought some Baltic Birch 3ml ply from the US. Had to take out a personal loan to pay for the shipping!! I then found the next best ply in so far as looks and quality was Hoop Pine which I get from Mr Ply & Wood. I buy it in 2400x1200 sheets and then cut it into manageable sizes on the table saw. Some of it isn't too crash hot but there is alot of lovely colours etc.. Cheers, silver fox aka Warwick |
