Default Good Afternoon!

Thought I'd say hello. Just getting into scrolling - in fact I haven't even bought a saw yet.
I've got my eye on the Dewalt 788 that everyone raves about or a used Hawk. Any thoughts on that?

Also, I love to work with wood and am looking for ways to make a few bucks on the side. Is scrolling - ornaments, puzzles, toys, lucrative at all? I was thinking Since Christmas is around the corner, I could make a few ornaments and puzzles as gifts and get the word out, then graduate to clocks or puzzle boxes for a little variety. I'm not looking to quit my day job, but if I could make a couple 100$ playing with tools, I'd be happy.
Anyhow, I'm glad I found this place and look forward to contributing.
My experience is in table building (dining room, poker tables) and hardwood flooring, but my wife and I tend to be creative for Christmas and Halloween, so I thought scrolling would be right up my alley.

Thanks for listening!

Matt

Hi Matt, Welcome to the forum. At this time, I am scrolling for fun and not for profit. I know there are many on the site who do it for profit.

Welcome Matt : I don't sell anything either unless someone just wants it and this will happen if you do it long enought. I make mostly for Christmas presents, and its getting pretty close to the time I'm going to get started> a bit cooler is when I'll take a break from these wonder people on this site. And I so enjoy this bunch on this wonderful site !!!!!!! MarshallB]

Dewalt has a return policy,if you don't like it take it back before the 30 days are up. A lot of stores are doing this now with tools. Dewalt had a 20% all power tools last week at Home Depot I think and this week Canadian tire is doing 17% off so check around.

Alan.

and welcome.

Buy the Hawk of course! The DeWalt is also a good choice and I really wouldn't mind having one as a second saw.

As for selling, I go mostly by word of mouth and that works out well. I rarely have any inventory of anything laying around since most everything is a commission or planned out as a gift. You really won't have a problem selling items once people have seen your work.

And lastly, welcome, glad to have you on board.

Thanks for the welcomes!

I bought a used Hawk Ultra last night. What a tool! Solid. I got it from Craigslist. Came with a foot switch, 2 extra blade clamps, and about 200 blades. That should get me started!
Heading to woodcraft tomorrow for some books, and whatever else I can find to spend $$ on....

Welcome aboard Matt. I guess I scroll for fun cause I sure ain't making any profit. Ether way I enjoy it. As for what saw to buy. Get one you can afford. After all it's not the saw but the scroller. The Dewalt and the Hawk are great saws from what i see on this forum.
