Welcome to the forum Matt,

I would go with the Hawk but then I am a bit biased as I own one!
As for selling JediScroller has written several excellent posts on the subject and you should search those as he has great advice!
Again, Welcome aboard!

Thanks again everyone.... I have played very little with the saw. Had to work a little overtime this week to pay for it!

As for profit? Thanks for the advice - I really am not looking to get rich of this, just put a little cash in my pocket and have fun with my tools.
I made a couple fish and cats for the kids from some quick patterns. they loved them.
heading to buy some better wood tomorrow as I have the day off work. I hope I get the time to cut something out!

I have one of each and either is a good choice. I do sell stuff, i do 3-4 christmas shows a year not that i make a lot of money but going to them has become a second hobby, have met a lot of nice people and i do enjoy seeing them. Our wonderful state requires a business lisence for doing these shows and the paper work for that can get to be a pain in the hindside. . . sales tax, inventory sheets, federal income tax etc. All in all the shows pay for them selves and make for fun week-ends away

Default Welcome

Welcome Matt!
Check out the library for Paul Meisel's How-to books for free patterns etc.
Great little projects and photocopy til your hearts content.
The latest edition of Creative Woodworks & Crafts has great ornament patterns - magazine costs around $6-$7 for a whole bunch of cool ornaments to start off with.
Grab yourself a cheap photo copier - comes in handy at 11pm when the wood is cutting nice and you need some more pattern copies!!
Enjoy - Val

p.s. watch after x-mas for a cheap fake x-mas tree to display your ornaments!!

Hello, and welcome I'm new too!
As for a scrollsaw I'm to new to recommend a certain brand. I bought mine at a garage sale which can be risky! Mine is a Taiwan type Powerline Machine Tools which makes machines for other Brands. I found one like mine with Grizzly's name on it. It' is an older 15" model (1985) and Grizzly still carries some of the parts and I was able to down load the manual. It's runs great, only thing it doesn't have a blower or isn't so easy to change blades.
If and when I buy a new scrollsaw the main considerations will be (1) ease of changing the blade (2) a dust blower (3) at least a 16" throat dept (4) foot feed, (5) Power (at least 1650 speed) which is what I have now.
I know by the time I'm ready to purchase a new bandsaw I'll have more requirements.
Also, I can recommend a super book by John A. Nelson "Scroll Saw Workbook" Woodworking Books & Magazines for the Inspired Woodworker I'm really learning a lot about scrollsaws and there are several practice patterns with instruction.
Let us know, when you get your scrollsaw and what you think about it.
KathyRo

Oops just read you made your decision! Now get to scrolling fella........tee hee

Welcome, I have the DEWalt and love it . I use to do local craft shows all small and I did make enough to pay for the saw and material I no longer do that as it was turning into a job. I still do a lot of different scrolling and if someone is interested after it is done I will sell or give it to a friend as a gift. This is a great hobby and I think you will enjoy it.
