I just want to say many thanks to all the members who responded to my intro message, The reception was worth me joining just for starters, I am afraid that at the moment I am only cutting out bits and pieces to get myself used to this Scroll Saw, I am also trying to make up my mind as to what project to begin with, I feel like a fish at the moment, can`t swim, no water. Well all you kind folks, if any one of you can suggest where a beginner should start, I would be interested.

Default Thanks To All Members

I have tried before to thank all the members that made me welcome to this site, I stated that I am only a beginner to the Scroll Saw, and it was such a pleasure to receive such kind messages from more advanced users, it`s not very often that you get people to help a novice.
I have not yet made up my mind what project to start with, so any suggestion would be welcome, All

Danny--
I tried doing work above my skill level when I started. My bulldog brain over rode my puppy dog abilities.
I would suggest looking for some simple Christmas ornaments and working on a few of them. After you get them cut, then you can dress them up with glue and glitter or paint, stain or whatever.
Stay away from the from the fretwork snowflakes the first few weeks until you get a feel for the wood, saw and blades. But, more than anything else, plan on making some ornate firewood in the beginning and don't be discouraged.
One mistake is a learning experience, two is not paying attention and three is --Well you draw your own conclusion.

Welcome to the forum, if, being a newby myself, I may be so bold. When I first started it was recommended that I just do some practice cuts, but I couldn't wait. I just happened to have a book of pet dog patterns by... and I can't recall the artist name just now, but it was called fine line patterns. (see my post elsewhere on this site) I found the patterns easy to cut and as I was just looking for experience, I could afford to give them to people. I'll tell you, one of my greatest joys is when I give one away. Not once have i ever got anything but big smiles and thank yous and invairabley a comment about "how did you get a picture of my dog." Anyway, I would suggest that you start with something like that. Also, from time to time there are patterns posted on this site for free. Just be sure to date or nuumber them so you can see your improvement as you go.
