Smile Hi everyone!

Hey y'all! Just picked up a cheap single speed scroll saw at an auction to see if I have an interest in the hobby. After using it for a week now, I can say I'm hooked! I'm just northeast of Columbia, SC. Anyone in my area? Look forward to many years of fun in my new time-killer!

Hi tookiedoo78, welcome to the right place to be when it comes to scrolling or just about anything else. I like tookiedoo. Where did that come from? David Hey, I'm a little bit north of you in North Carolina.

Thanks for the welcome guitarman. Tookiedoo is the name of the "town" where I live. It's just a small community in the middle of nowhere. I always heard that "tookiedoo" was a Native American word, but I have no idea what it might mean if it is.
And Pajaro, my saw is a no-name import. It's single speed, 1750 SPM, pin type only, 16". But it's enough to get me interested so far! I've cut out some letters and a couple of puzzles on it, and I hope to be trying a fairly simple picture frame this weekend. I can't wait to upgrade to a better saw so I can try some of the really detailed fretwork pieces!

Hi there, and welcome for sure. Hay my first saw was the same one. mine was a 16 inch craftsmon. that only took pin blades. a bother to chang, and it only went 1700 rpm. I could only get big blades at the time and started out with 2x4 stand up puzzles. slamed my fingures so many times. but wonted to learn. befor you knew it, I had my new Hegner under me. and now I make lots of fun fretwork projects. and dang they aren't to bad. it has paid for itself over , and over, in gifts and holleday stuff. I love this hobby, and it has guided me into lots of learning of lots of other tools. I also sew, but my sewing room has gotton pretty lonly for I am in my wood shop. most the time now. glad your hear. that saw will teach you lots of things. and when you get a up grade, you will love it alot more. from what you have leared. your new friend Evie

Thanks Evie! I'm already getting some great tips from reading the boards. There's a wealth of experience on this site from folks like yourself. Thanks again!
