Default Just realized that I own a scroll saw!!

My uncle passed away several years ago and I was going through his shed today. I decided to take a closer look at the odd looking device in the back corner that I have always ignored due to the clutter blocking the way. It turned out to be a Craftsman scroll saw!
I have never used a scroll saw before and it has no instruction booklet with it so I tinkered with it for a few moments to figure out how to load the blade and get the thing working. I plugged it in and turned it on and it whirred to life! I tried out a few simple curves and fell in love with the device! Now I can start on the rocking chair that I have been wanting to build but had no way to cut the curves for the rockers.

I look forward to learning the ins and outs of using my new toy and sharing my progress with the kind people of this forum!

Problem is that I already have so many addictions!! lol
My current major project is "steampunking" an old Presario v2000. (altering it to look like a Victorian jewelry box) I always have a dozen or so other smaller projects of different sorts going on at the same time. The scroll saw should actually enhance my other projects though. (which is a good thing since I don't have time for any new hobbies) I am already thinking about putting some type of simple scrollwork inlay around the edges of the laptop to remedy the rather plain edge of the lid as well as something for the center of the lid.

This is only a rough mockup. (yes, that is the laptop, not just a box) It still has a long way to go before I can call it finished.
First things first though, I need to get out there and practice by creating "custom firewood" as I saw it called elsewhere on the forum.

Well Reverend, one good thing about this addition, it's not a sin. IS IT!!?

I like the idea of the wood laptop. Might be a big hit among the Geeks of the world. Keep up the good work.

With the wonderful find of a scroll saw, I decided to look further into the shed to see what else I could find. There was also a band saw that looked brand new, a handheld router that also looked as though it had never been used, and a very nice jigsaw. I already have plans to mount the router in a table to make it a hand/table router, but I have no idea how to set the band saw up for use.
All in all, good finds.

I think you will find both the bandsaw and the router to be useful in your steampunk modding work. With the bandsaw, you can resaw thick wood into thin planks (like what you used to cover the laptop with.

I absolutely love the steampunk style, by the way. It just brings the game Myst to mind for me!

Keep looking Reverend. May be you will find some more timber to work with. Seems you have found a treasure chest.
