Default Hey Folks

Hi folks,

I’m new to the whole woodworking field. I bought a scroll saw a few weeks ago to make some stuff for the room I was building my son (a Superman themed room- Superman Room) and discovered how relaxing the hobby is, so I decided to take it on.

I am a software engineer (computer programmer in the days of yore) for a defense contractor in New Jersey, USA with a wife and two beautiful and mischievous kids (a 3.5 year old girl and a 11 month old boy).

I have discovered this website and forum in the course of my research and it has been an invaluable tool in my arsenal of knowledge and reference.

Besides some stuff on my gallery I haven’t made much, but I would like to learn intarsia and mainly marquetry.

Zohar

Welcome Zohar, there are many of us in the geek fields that have taken up woodworking in general and scrolling in particular. It is so different from our day to day work! Again, welcome, you have found the best site on the net and a great group of people that will answer any and all questions related to scrolling!
As I like to say - Welcome to the addiction!
Now, post up some pics of your work, we love that!

Welcome
This is a helpful forum.
If you really want to get into some of the more advanced work, look around for someone who is giving a class. There are a lot of good books out there, but you cannot beat the personal help of experience.

Zohar, I only do fret work now, but I also would like to advance to the harder things. I have yet to do a intasia, or mag, mmm that looks so hard to me. but I do love all woodworking, I love the smell, and all the dust in my hair and eyelashs, and the look of wood is like no other . I would like to get into more wood turning, and chip carving. Carving period. but I will always love my fretwork, so many patterns, and not enouph time. the thing about fretwork, or any of the scrolling projects, they can be pretty easy, Or hard, for sure, but you can pump out some great stuff that looks like you took forever making them, and they just blow folks away. nice gifts, and just nice to have things that you make, in your home, that you can't buy in a store. doing fretwork, has tought me so much about wood, and finishing, this group is a great one. kind, and helpfull to no end, I just love it hear. they even put up with my bad grammer, and spelling. oh shucks. your friend Evie
