Default Good morning all from Illinois

I am recently retired and would like to become involved with scrollsawing (isn't that a novel idea). I have never used a scrollsaw but have some background with woodworking. Over the years I have made several clocks but never pursued woodworking seriously as life got in the way. I now have the time, but where to start, what to buy, what do I need to learn, etc.

I am thinking of the Hawk G4 or an Excalibur saw and wonder if anyone has any thoughts on whether or not these are appropriate saws to start out with. I do not wish to buy twice. I hope that makes sense. Any good books and/or websites (other than this one) that I might look into?

Any thoughts and/or help/suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

ajay

Hawk G4 and Excalibur are top of the line, and you would be very happy with either of them (those were always the top of my wish list). They are a bit pricey, but if you are able to swing it, you can't do much better. Dewalt 778 is the next step down, still very good (I love mine), and a bit more economical.

Welcome to the forum. You will find out lots of info on using a scrollsaw, working with patterns, and will find lots of nice people here.

Hi Lois: Thanks for the quick reply and warm welcome. I am so looking forward to getting started. I will probably be asking questions of everybody about everything related to scroll sawing.

I can already tell there are some mighty fine folks who frequent this forum.

Welcome ajay......to find other info on scrolling you could Google scroll saw forums, but this forum is really the best of all. IMHO
There are lots of good books on scrolling......check out your local library, browse the book stores, or go to Scroll Saw-Best Sellers
Then of course subscribe to the magazine here on this site Free Issue Offer - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts

Come back often, and don't forget to keep your first scroll project....you can compare your workmanship as you progress.
