Default Hi everyone Very new to this

Hi

My first post here and why I am here is because last weekend I bought this Delta saw ( I have about every woodworking tool except a scroll saw), So I'm going to give it a try. Is this saw an OK one,it's in really good shape, I paid $120.00 for it,that a good price? I ordered the Quickset II Scroll Saw Blade Chuck for it.

Well I'll be back for more questions...........for sure

Hope everyone has a blessed and nice Easter

Jeff

Welcome Jeff,

It looks like you got yourself a nice 'vintage' Delta Q3 there. Those were top of the line back when they were new. If you have never used a scroll saw before, I'd suggest getting the Scroll Saw Workbook by John Nelson (available on this site). One thing to remember is that the scroll saw was not made to cut straight lines. It can be done, but the scroll saw is in its element when cutting intricate designs.

Once bit by the scroll saw bug you will be hooked for life.

Welcome to the addiction Jeff, I have never owned a Delta scroll saw but I do have many Delta tools. Should be a good buy, especially at $120.00!

Jeff,
Welcome and good luck. I have had a Q3 for 10 years. Replaced the on-off switch 3 times so far... only problem. If it does not have the quick clamp blade holders, upgrade immediately if you can. . It is an aggressve saw so go slow. Scrolling is a great hobby and a lot of fun. Welcome to the forum.

Jeff
First off welcome!
What I first noticed was that you did not make your shop big enough! I like the extension cords. Mine is only 12 x 12 way to small, only thing I could afford at the time! My Dad built a 24 x 24 garage and now says it should be bigger! From th exhaust you have I now you are not working out of a 12 x 12, Have fun which by the pics this is your haven.
Regards
Pep
ps Your shop looks big!

Hi Jeff.
Nice looking Vintage Delta Q3 saw you have there.

Although I do have a Delta P-20 that I would not trade for any other saw on the market, I do not have any experience with the older Q3 model like you have.

There is one person that is more knowledgable about all scroll saws than anyone I know of and especially the model you have . That is Rick Hutcheson. He is a saw collector and with all the scroll saws he has I believe he mentioned that the Q3 is still his favorite one to use.
You can view his very helpful website and learn a lot there about your saw and even phone him or email him if you like for additional info. .

Rick's Scrollsaw

He might even come into this thread and offer some help.
Good luck with your new "to you" saw.

guys.

I ordered and got the quick change blade holder for it today. Started a simple pattern I printed off the internet, but was getting tired and trying to hurry it so I quit for the day. If I'm going to make this a relaxing hobby I have to learn not to hurry.
