Default new to scrollsaw

I am a weekeend woodworker and use power tools but have never used a scollsaw. I have recently taken on the task of organizing our toy drive for our woodworker's guild. I purchased an 18" Craftsman scrollsaw. I have been reading alot on using a scroll saw but just wanted to get any advice from experienced users. I will strictly be using the saw to cut out toys for our guild.
Any tips on use or safety would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Beth M.

Beth

1st of all - welcome to the board and scrolling.

Once you start - you're hooked.

Don't want to recommend blades because everyone has their favorite brand. Personally, I use FD blades.

Safety - sharp tips go down, run your finger over the blade to check - keep anti-kickback in place until you know exactly how the saw behaves - do not over-push the material through the blade, let the blade do the work -

Practice, practice, practice

Thumbs up safety tips

Popsshop,
thanks for the tips. When you say run your fingers over the blade what am I checking for? The sharp tips down would be visible wouldn't they? Also, keep anti-kickback in place- is that the hold down piece?
Thanks again for the tips.
