| Introducing Myself My name is Joe Marty. I am retired from the Marine Corps now going on 12 years. I have been in the refinishing furniture field for just as long. I have just recently purchased my first scroll saw, a Dremel Scroll Station, Model 1830. I am new to this and this site. I will be asking many questions for you experts as I am just a rookie. For instance, what patterns should I begin with? |

| Welcome! Have you used a scroll saw before? There are two newer scroll saw workbooks that are good to get started with. They will step you through many techniques while giving you some good patterns. |

| Joe (or do you prefer Gunny?)
1st, welcome to the forum. I hope you will enjoy your visits here, do come back often.
Scroll saw is an eye-hand coordination thing. That means a skill. Not hard to learn, and it don't take long, but you must get over the learning curve. That means you got to practice, to develop your skill. Scroll sawing don't involve buying jigs, fixtures, or gizmos from some catalog. We spend our money on patterns.
I posted some practice patters a while back, see this link: Beginner's Scroll Saw Skill Builder Pattern Rev A
Good luck.

| Welcome Joe. The way I would begin is to make a few cuts in scrap to get used to the way the blade tracks. Then start cutting patterns you like. Do come and post as much as you like. This is a great group of people here.

| 1st Question: I have downloaded some patterns from Gray Beard Phil. How in the world do I put the pattern on the wood? If I had thought that I was any good at being an artist, I would have never joined the Marine Corps! |

It is great to get the mail delivery and explore ne projects in the publications. To answer your question; at the Home Depot store in the paint dept., 3M Super 77 spray adhesive, spry the backside of the pattern, wait till tacky like tape, afix to wood choice cover with clear packing tape and make some sawdust. Hope this rookie was helpful. Akitaboo |

| Gunnyjoe - have a look at this thread about attaching patterns Pattern attachment Poll
Personally I cover the item with painters tape (blue ot green) then use 3M adhesive to attach the pattern but there are quite a few variations ..
