Default Another Newbie

Hello folks, my name is Alan. This seems like a real friendly and infomative site.
I live near Pittsburgh, PA.
Just got my saw today, and can't wait. It's too late to start tonight.

My plan is to use the saw to help build Model Railroad Cars - G Scale - for outdoor use!

For those not familiar, G scale is pretty big. Many know about the Lionel indoor model railroads - they are sized at 1:48: G scale is about double that -1:32, 1:24 or even larger - 1:20. I run 1:24 because the math is easier!
1 inch = 2 ft.
I plan on scratch building as much as possible. I don't have a metal lathe, so will have to buy the wheels!

Hey Alan,

Welcome to the group, you going to find a really great group of people here. I saw from your other post that you just got your DW788 today, congrats on your new toy. We look forward to seeing your first cutting, we are all very picture crazy here, we enjoy sharing our works with everyone.
Look through the galleries and you will see that there is no shortage of talent here, some of our members are kind enough to do WIP photos which makes it like following a story in real life.
So kick back, enjoy and jump in anytime you feel like it.

Welcome Alan. There is at least one other member here who likes model building, so you will fit right in. You are right that this is a friendly and informative site.

Exclamation

I guess I'll have to learn new Anacronyms!

WIP means Work in Progress I'm guessing??

Over on the model railroad forums they're called Builders Logs

Hey Aspinaller,

Welcome to the group. Whereabouts near Pittsburgh are you from? I live about an hour or so north of the city, near Butler. I belong to a local scroll saw club, mostly retired guys from the area, one guy comes from Monroeville. If you interested, let me know and I can give you more info.

Not many acronyms here. As you guessed, WIP refers to a work in progress.

A few others you will run across are, in no particular order:
BB = Baltic Birch [plywood]
BLO = Boiled Linseed Oil
SS = Scrollsaw

That is all I can think of just now.

I live east of Pittsburgh in Delmont.
rt 66 and rt 22: about 45 minutes from Butler
How about that!

I have started: I hope eventually the cuts I make actually follow the line!
I wonder if the quality of the blade makes cutting on the line easier?

The blades I have were also from Grizzly: "SuperCut" is the brand. On the back it says they were produced in any of the following countries: USA. Sweden, Spain, Germany!
