You will probably get lots of ideas. I have a Hegner and love it, but I am from UK and I understand that they are difficult get hold of and expensive in US. However, I am sure that you will get lots of response as to the others. From what I have read, the Hawk would be my choice if I had to renew. See what others think. Good Luck and welcome to the forum Sue |

Hi gobo, I also own a Hegner, but a lot of scrollers from different scrollsaw forums that I belong to all speak very highly of the DeWalt 788. It also received good reviews from some of the woodworking magazines....MIKE

Hi gobo, I also have the Hegner 18vs, about 8 years now. Last fall I bought the EX-21 at the Wisconsin SS Trade show. Had to do it as it had all the features I was looking for in a machine. So far I have not experienced any problems with it. The Dewalt is quite similar to the EX-21. Can't speak on the Hawk G4 other than what I have heard. Good machine and American made with good support. In my opinion, you won't regret your purchase of any one of these three machines. Now I just need to decide if I want to sell the Hegner as it is not getting used??? Oh well, a good backup if need be. I may just take it to the Wis. SS Trade show this year and sell it there.

Of those saws you mentioned, you should be happy with any of them, let your budget help dictate your decision. I'm happy with my yella saws, but theres nothing wrong with a red, or orange, or green one either. Dale

When I upgraded, I put a spreadsheet together and listed all of the saws I was looking at in one column and all of the features I wanted for the type of sawing I like to do across the top. I put X's in the columns for the saws that had the features I wanted and narrowed it down from there. In the end for me, the only 2 saws that offered everything I wanted were the Hawk G4 and the Excalibur EX-30. I ended up with the EX-30 and have no regrets whatsoever.

Just recently upgraded to a Hegner 22V. I am very impressed. No more fear on fragile projects. No blade movement at all. Kevin's projects don't even put fear in me anymore. Tom

We all have our favorites. I have and love my G4. I have also enjoyed using a Hegner the only thing I wish it has was the capability to top feed. I have been using that feature more and more on my G4. The G4 also has more room under the upper arm. If you have a chance try them all before you buy.

Gobo You will get as many suggestions as there are different scroll saws. I have the Excalibur EX21. Great saw. I use to have a Dremel 18. Good saw for the money (few problems) but the price is right. The EX 21 is much better saw but it has a hefty price tag. Hegner, Dewalt, Hawk, all good saws. Think with your wallet. But get best you can afford.

gobo, first thing you will have to deceide is do you like bottom or top feed? I used the DeWalt for years, still have 3. switched to Excalibur 21 in 06. Just wanted to try something different. Both are fine saws. toby
