No problem about keeping fingers with a scroll saw. You would have to have a high and long pain tolerance level to be able to lose a finger. Heh, Heh, Heh;

Welcome from central NC! scrolling is a very rewarding hobby. You should check out www.intarsia.com this is Judy Gale Roberts website. She is in Sevierville, TN. I would love to visit her studio sometime. She also offers classes.
