Default New scroller

Hi everyone!

I'm new to scrolling and this forum. I currently have a cheap scroll saw from Harbor Freight, but plan to add a better one soon. I've always been interested in scrolling and even had a coping saw as a child and had fun with it.

Now in my 50s I guess I'm in my second (or third) childhood (love them toys!) so now I can make sawdust and maybe have something worth looking at afterward.

Anyway, I thought I'd make my first post so I can get rid of the nag at the top of the page.

Ed

Welcome Ed.
Just remember it is not the saw that creates the work but the person behind it.
I have seen some great work on entry level saws.
Hope to see some of yours posted here soon.

Default Thanks Carl

Thank you for the encouraging words. I purchased the Scrollsaw Handbook from Fox Chapel Publications and have finished several of the exercises. I'm getting better, but still make many mistakes.

I haven't done many fretwork projects yet because it is a pain changing the blade.

I'm current;y looking at a couple saws, but my budget is limited to around $200. I'm leaning toward the Delta SS350LS. Rockler has it for right at $200. I've downloaded several free patterns to keep me busy for a bit plus all the charts from the SAW website for choosing blades and drills.

Again, thanks for the quick and friendly welcome.

Ed

Welcome, Ed!

Quick question: Your avatar, you are using the Linux penguin. Is that an indication of your computer OS?

Welcome ED. Play around on your cheap harbor freight saw.A cheap saw is much better then no saw. Im not sure how far from Bellingham WA you are, but the Grizzly Tools catalog lists the Dewalt scrollsaw in it at a pretty decent price once you decide to move to a little more expensive saw, but for now, make some dust! dale

Yes, my preference is Linux. I still have a couple M$ based computers, though. I'm not one of those fire-breathing anti-M$ people.
