Default Newbie Scrollsawer

New to scroll sawing, purchase me a 20" used Hawk.Have yet to put it to work.Since I'm new to this forum and to this sport,I will be looking for ideals for my first project.I have been woodworking for several yrs and looking for something to help make my projects stand out alittle (besides my mistakes)After looking around alittle this is the place to help me do just that. What books or magazines or dvd's would you suggest that I purchase to help with the learning curve.Something with ideals and which type of blades to pick.(so many choices)This place is fantastic

Welcome. Scrollsaw woodworking and crafts is a good magazine. I found the New Scrollsaw Handbook by the late Patrick Spielman to be a good learning book. As far as patterns I guess I wood shop around, book stores, Librarys or the internet. Fire away with any questions, lots of helpful people here. I use FD and Olson blades, mainly #2-2/0.
Happy Scrolling.
Dean

I'll just copy a previous post

If you click on other great sites on the left side of the page, then hit the button "Fox Chapel Publishing", then Scrollsaw/beginner, you will come to this page here http://www.foxchapelpublishing.com/s...fm?FullCat=111

I have almost all these books and would particularly like to recommend Mr. Nelson's Scroll Saw Workbook to start with. I also like Ms. Roberts' Intarsia Workbook and Patrick Spielman's books as a beginner. I don't have Charles Dearing's or Dirk Boelman's books but have cut patterns from both those gentlemen and would not hesitate to recommend them. Hope that helps!
