Hello fellow scrollers. I have been scrolling for about 9 years and have become obsessed with making dust. A co-worker got me interested but the Scroll Saw Magazine really kick started my intrest and made it my main hobby. I Thank all of the designers for their talent in desigining patterns. Everything I have made has been used for gifts. My other hobby is taking things apart and fixing them. I also work nights.
I have one question, I just cut out a few of the clock patterns by Sue Mey from the Fall 07 issue pg76. Once I started finishing one I realized that the "V" was upside down. Is that the way it should be.
Thanks again to all of the Designers and this magazine.

Welcome to the forum Snapper, This is a very interesting observation, I have also cut this clock, as have many others on this forum, and until you mentioned it I didn't realize the "V" is upside down. After I finished cutting the face, I ask hubby to rout me out a circle to finish the clock, he looked very hard at the clock face and told me something was wrong but he couldn't quite put his finger on why he didn't like it, he just said something's wrong with this pattern, it dosen't read very easy, so I never finished the clock. I will ask him today if that's what he thought was wrong. I'm not sure if it's a design flaw or if all Roman numeral clocks are done the same way.
Marsha

Snapper, I just looked on the Cherry Tree website at their Roman numeral clocks and the "V"s are all done the same way as this pattern, so I quess it's the right way.

Hi Snapper

I see you asked about my clock pattern with the 'V' upside down. Traditionally roman numerals on clocks continue in a circle, resulting in the bottom numerals being upside down. There has also been a thread discussing the use of IIII instead of IV -
One common suggestion is that around the circle the IIII balances the VIII which is in its mirror-symmetrical place – that is if a mirror was placed vertically between the XII and VI, the VIII and IIII would reflect on to each other.
