Red face Just Arrived

Hi all,

Just joined this site and am looking for some great advice for someone new to scrollsaws. I have done some woodworking in the past, but now that I am retired I am getting back into woodworking with more intentionality. I would like to focus on pen turning, box making and scrollsaw work, particularly in the are of inartsia.

Does anyone have some suggestions on some beginning books that would get me started in scrollsawing?? Thanks

Looking forward to being on this board.

Welcome to the family, David. For scrollsaw books, you can't go wrong with anything by Spielman. We have some really great pen turners and intartia artists here, too, so I'm sure one will advise there.

Welcome. There is lots of great advise here, so ask away. There are so many wonderful people here who are very knowledgeable about the Scrollsaw, and are happy to share that with everyone else.

Welcome David. You just joined a great bunch here. For books check out Fox Publishing. No I do not work for them. The publish they ScrollSaw and Wood Craft magazine and a entire collection of books covering all styles of woodworking. I would also check out your local public library.

Hey David

I would suggest checking out Judy Gale Roberts website www.intarsia.com She is one of the best intarsia artists around, and she has many books and even classes.

Scroll Saw Workbook by John A. Nelson published by Fox Chapel (Owner's of this site and forum) 2nd Edition.
{on far right hand side of this web page, click on the large Icon for New Scroll Saw Books... Then scroll down a bit to purchase the book.}

Scroll Saw Handbook by Patrick Spielman (somewhat out of date) published by Sterling Press.

Last I checked, both books are for sale at Amazon.com (used and new)

Some download videos available at Rick Hutchenson's web site http://www.scrollsaws.com/ but you should have a fast Internet service. Dial-up would be slow.

If there is a Rockler's or a Woodcraft store near you, they have all sorts of Scroll Saw books, at full retail prices.

Some good books which are not just a hair above the 'beginner teaching' books:

Many other books on link to Fox Chapel books on right hand side of screen:
but also the following older books which may be in your local Library:

Decorative & Ornamental Scroll Saw Patterns by Patrick Spielman and Dirk Boelman published by Sterling

Scroll Saw Puzzle Patterns by Patrick Spielman published by Sterling (may be out of print.)

Hope this helps

Hello
I got some used books on scroll sawing by going to www.amazon.com
got some real good deals, and the used ones were just fine for me and my wallet.
