How are you attaching your patterns to the wood? I've had that problem if I don't spray a heavy enough coat of adhesive on the pattern. It will lift in narrow places. I use Krylon Repositionable Spray Adhesive and usually put it on heavy enough that I can see the pattern lines through the paper. Then I rub it down real well to make sure it makes full contact. if I'm stack cutting, I wrap the stack in clear packaging tape.
When you are done cutting, wipe the pattern with some mineral spirits and it comes right off. There are lots of other ways to attach patterns. Maybe some other folks will chime in.
