Hi: My name is John and I am a cabinet maker by trade.I live about 20 miles SE of Milwaukee. have been only scrolling for a couple of months now. I completed a few simple fretwork projects with my two speed dremel and would like to upgrade. The dremel works fine for puzzles but on fretwork it's a pain to loosen the blade. I know that about 26% of you have the dewalt and only about 4% have the excalibur. What I would like to know is the people that have the excalibur would they buy it again. I here that a lot of people are happy with there dewalts but I am hesitant to purchase the dewalt now that they are made in tiawan. To the people that have a dewalt would you buy another dewalt or would you spend the extra money and go for the excalibur. I do have the money for the excalibur but I am the kind of guy that is happy driving a chevrolet rather than a cadillac. My next project is the angle wall clock that has a lot of fretwork on it. I am not retired yet (age 59) and have don't have a lot of free time to scroll so time is money. Thank's much I have learned a lot on this forum already.

Hello John, welcome to the family. As far as the saw, I've owned a two speed Delta and upgraded to DW788 and love it. Excellent cutting machine with little vibration, haven't had the problems with mine that some others have had. Would I buy it again? Yes. I'm sure machines like the Excalibur may be better but is it worth the price difference, that's something that you'll have to decide.
Post pics of the projects that you have finished, would like to see your work. You have found a good place to get information from a lot of gifted people who are willing to help any way they can so if you have any questions just ask away.

Default Hawk Saws

You might want to consider a Hawk from rbindustries. I have my third Hawk, a G4. I never wore one out, I upgraded because of newer innovations, the last one being top feeding. Also, another plus for a Hawk is that they have a mounting hole for a mag light right on the stationary arm of the saw, which I find extremely handy.

Welcome to our family John, I'm the proud owner of a Dewalt and can honestly say YES I would buy another one. But I will add this, my next saw (which I'm saving for) will be an Eclipse!
Enjoy your stay and visit often!

Welcome John. Would I buy another Dewalt? Absolutely! I will admit, all of my Dewalts are Type 1 saws, and not the dreaded type 2 ones, but I think for every one you hear about that has troubles, theres 100 that dont have any problems. I think the excal is a pretty good saw, but im not sure the extra cost makes it desireable. But! I did see where one can now be ordered brand new at $699, so that makes it a little more tempting. I am in western Racine county,in fact, Im probably about 5 miles from you, as I grew up in the area, and graduated from UGUHS (Go Broncos) if you ever want to come and run a dewalt a while, to get the feel of one.Welcome to the forum! Dale
