Well, last Thursday, Friday and Saturday were the drop off days to enter items into the State Fair. I dropped off two items, I hate their goofy rules and actually had to argue a bit. The years of doing fretwork is what set my "class", you know novice, intermediate or expert. I've been working intarsia for not all that long, really I think less than a year and a half which would make me a novice. They tried to tell me that they all had to go in the same class, isn't that nuts? So 20 years from now when I'm in the ultimate expert super start long time cutter fretwork class and I decided to buy a lathe a month before the fair, guess what... Nah that makes no sense so I argued big time. Here is what I entered Fretwork was my latest carved fretwork The Need For Speed - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Photo Gallery Intarisa Wolf Head - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Photo Gallery Well, we will see what happens. The fair opens on Friday and I got a quick look at some really nice pieces. I will try and remember my camera when I go and try and get some pictures of the other work. One thing I know for sure, there won't be enough entries. Tom |

Nice work Tom, best of luck to you! I entered 4 items last Thursday in the Utah State Fair, same four I had in the county fair. Our fair opens this Thursday but I don't get to go until the last weekend as the Missus is out of town this weekend and wants to spend a day there, and she told me I had to wait for her!! No Fair! Be sure to let us know how you did!

Entering in a county fair is exciting, I'm sure entering in a state fair must be extra exciting! I may try entering in the WI state fair next year as the judge that did our county fair this year claimed our woodwork entered at our county fair was better than a lot of the stuff entered in our state fair! good luck to you, even though with those projects, i doubt you will need to rely on luck at all, they are both great pieces!

I think I'd like to have a county fair to enter my stuff in. I live in Albuquerque and the state fair is right here in town, thus no county fair ![]() Oh well, the fair opens on Friday and if I get in there I'll let you guys know. Tom |

Good luck with your entries Tom! Alas, I'm not allowed to enter any of my stuff in the fairs around here as I'm classified as a "professional." Here that just means that you sell more than 50% of what you make (I sell virtually 100% of what I make). This is per the rules that I received from about 4 of them, at that point I figured a ribbon just wasn't worth the aggravation.

our local fair has a professional division meaning that you can show your work but you can not be judged and win any ribbons or money... as for our state fair, in the pass you had to be invited to enter but it seams that rule has changed.... Trout
