| "08 TX Scroll Saw Picnic update This was my first Picnic, and although I was only there for a couple of hours, it was great!!!! In fact, I was on the floor and gone before the event actually kicked off - I had a plane to catch back to San Antonio. But believe me; I made the very best of those 2 hours! I got to meet the Wilkens’s – really nice people, I enjoyed speaking with them and they freely offered up all kinds of wonderful advice, I suppose the fact that I spent ~$35.00 on patterns didn't hurt, but their hospitality sure seemed genuine to me. And their work was beautiful to say the least. I picked up more magazine back issues then I can count from just about every vendor their! I also spent some time with the folks from Dremel and Seyco -- all great people! Lastly, I picked up a Tee shirt from Fox Chapel and also paid for a couple magazine back issues from these guys as well, but I left them sitting on the table as I was running for the door – my fault, not theirs! I will say there were bargains to be had at every table/booth; mainly for tools, patterns and back issues of magazines; but not for wood... at least not in my opinion! All in all, I think the show was huge success; at least it was for me. Kudos to DFW Scrollers and Lyndal’s Back Yard – they did a fantastic job!!!!!!

| Good to hear you enjoyed your short stay there. And, maybe Bob spotted your stuff you left behind on the FC table, and set it aside for you. Wouldnt that be sweet? Dale |

| To say I had a great time would be an understatement. Bob's seminar was outstanding and I have tons of ideas for new patterns. I had to buy a new suitcase because I couldn't help myself. I bought 3 slabs of Osage Orange (I believe they call it "Bodart" locally), a pattern from the Wilkens, a book and a couple of T-shirts.
It was a huge treat finally meeting Bob in person. We were neighbors in the vendor hall and just had a terrific time.
Lyndal Hutcherson and the DFW Scrollers did an outstanding job putting on this event. Lyndal is one of the finest people I've ever met. It was a treat meeting so many online friends in person. This was just a terrific experience.
If you have the chance to get to the PA or Wisconsin picnics, I would strongly recommend that you go. I'll be in PA next month and now I really can't wait.
I didn't get to take as many pictures as I had hoped, I'm hoping that others have more pics of the event. I've attached a photo of our own Bob manning his booth.

| Pete....wish you would've came over and introduced yourself. A few of us were wondering where you were. For me the biggest treat was getting to meet fellow scrollers, this was my first picnic as well.

| No apologies necessary! You're allowed to feel however you want! (unless you are apologizing for not coming over and introducing yourself...I would have loved to meet you in person!!!)

| For those of you who would like to see some pics from the picnic several folks have posted some in a special album at AFSP. I know there's lots more out there, I'm particularly looking for the before, after and afterer picture of Bob, Stan and myself. Hopefully the DFW site will add a section with their pics to their site soon.
Edit: You do not need to be a member to see the pics.

| Hi Pete,
I'd love to know what would have made the show better in your eyes. In the past we've done a little "scroll-off" at the booth, and I know other shows have had "scrolling circles" where you can test drive saws.
As a show promoter and vendor - it's pretty much like the magazine - if we don't know what's broke, we can't fix it.
Having not been to a picnic before makes you especially qualified to give feedback. What would have made it an awesome show? |
