| Yea, I found that show in Ohio. I'll be in the area, not sure I'll be at the show though since I have to work. That is my Sunday delivery route area.
I wonder anyhow that it's rude to display at more than one show. I've seen people doing 2 and 3 shows. I guess I can argue either way, since it's nice to be able to let lots of people see your work, but on the other hand you can be just hording ribbons. That's assuming you get ribbons at all of course, but it's like a what if situation, like you could get first place ribbons at 2 seperate shows and then you took away someone elses opportunity. Maybe you worked harder than those other people, or did a better job, but on the other hand how much ego boost do you need? Be nice if everyone could get a ribbon, but the world doesn't work that way, and sometimes it's good when you don't get a ribbon because it helps you to strive for more quality in the future. It's a mind bender that I'm hung up on, so personally I don't know if I should just bow out or what.

| Ohio show Jeff, if you have the time on your Sunday run you might stop in a bit. Hope to see you. As for the ribbon thing. Interesting subject. One of the things that come to mind is, each show or competition has their own set of judges. Hopefully they look for the same thing, but that is not always the case. Usually the public knows pretty close who has the best entries. If a person's entry is judged to be the best then I do not have a problem with that. As for going to multiple competitions, if that is your thing then go for it. I have entered many competitions in the past 9 years. Winning a ribbon is justification of a job well done. Not winning, tells me I need to correct or improve some part of my project. I always congratulate any winner I can. I realize the work that has gone into their projects. I think most of us that like to enter competitions are not really competing against the other person , but are competing against ourselves. At least that is how I look at it. toby |

Winning a ribbon just means that some set of judges decided to give you a ribbon. Not winning just means that some set of judges decided not to give you a ribbon. It has nothing to do with the quality of the work submitted. If all projects submitted are of equal quality, someone is still going to win and someone is still going to lose.
The winner will typically be the one with the project that has the most "curb appeal."
The only contest I'm worried about is if people will pay for the stuff, I consider every piece sold a "win."
(Can you tell I'm not a fan of contests)

| going this year Kevin, as a retired College coach, 26 years, I must agree with you about contests. When one team scores more points, they win. simple. I prefer it that way. subjective judging will always be at the whim of each judge. I understand what each judge goes through when judging an event. I know each of them think their choice is the right one and can usually back that up with good reasoning. Usually some one is offended because they think ;their entry is the best. I would love to see a system based on points but have not yet come up with a system that is impartial. I don't think there is one. toby |
