Default Woodworking Show, Timonium, MD 1/4

Anyone going this week-end? We're going either Sat or Sun depending on how hubby feels with his cold. Since we started attending these shows, they seem to have gotten smaller & smaller, or is it just me?

Betty

I would appreciate some feed back after you attend the show. They are under new management and say they are trying to improve things. Interesting to hear how it is going. The Florida show is not until the end of March but I am working up my shopping list in hopes there will be a lot of vendors.

Our show here in WI is in late Feb. I agree, they are getting much smaller every year. And, depending on your location, you may not even find a scrollsaw in the building. I imagine the cost for companies to take it on the road is getting to pricy, but the crowd seems to show up to buy. Here its a three day sale, Fri, Sat, Sun. I have learned if you are going in anticipation of buying a large machine (lathe, tablesaw, bandsaw, jointer, ect)your best bet is going on Saturday. Here, on Saturday morning they put out the signs selling the demo units. You can buy the demo at a little discount, but have to return on Sunday afternoon to pick it up.If you are looking for small items (router bits, drill bits, sandpaper ect), Sunday is the best day to go, especially from that big booth that sells books, they mark them down more each day of the show. Drawback.... they might not have the title you are looking for. Dale

Are you referring to Peachtree, Lenny, Larry or Tool something or other? LOL Yes they were all there. Actually, this year was much better than the last few, but only Hegner & PSI for scrollsaws. We actually noticed some vendors sharing space - Hegner & Tormax. Lee Valley & Lie Nielsen was there as well as William Ng. Of course, his classes cost $600!! And there about 10 in there! He had some of his work on display and it is stunning. The usual local woodturners/workers were there. It seems since Delta & Porter Cable were taken over by Black & Decker the shows have gone downhill. But that just might be my impression. Fein, Freud, and some of those were there. As well as Craft Supplies, a turning company, but they only had a very small space as compared to last year. But they had several lathes set up so you could try out turning to see if you liked it. That was a first. We still left some money behind but not as much as we usually do. Lee Valley was taking orders and paying shipping & taxes so that was a savings. I use their drill bits so I ordered some. MCSL or MLSC, whoever they are, were there also but they are located only 5 minutes from my house so I just go to their store if I need any extra bits. Other than that, it was much better than York, Pa, & better than last year.
