Hi Folks, Can anyone give me information on The RBI Hawk 216VS? I have the opportunity to pick one up for about $300.....is that a deal? I know that you can't get parts through RBI for the 216 but this one was only used twice and is like brand new....I think I better jump on it?!?! Any thoughts?? P.S. I'm new to scrolling and have been reading the site and posts for a little over a month and just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the information!! It is absolutely the best source of information I can find anywhere!! HAPPY SCROLLING!! Jeff |

Jeff I don't have any experience with that particuliar model but I do have a Hawk G4 and I love that red termite to death. I have said it so many times but I still think Hawk has some of the finest if not the best folks when it comes to customer service and support...I would expect that same service is extended towards buyers of used saws as well. Last night while WWS was out of commission, I went looking for a new saw... I started out over no Craigslist which didn't have much to offer for scroll saws. but there was a post for a shopsmith so I thought I would check it out and as I was going through the pictures, at the bottom was a brand new Hawk scroll saw.. I got to thinking if this guy wants $600 for the whole lot, I wondered what he would take for just the scroll saw so I sent him a email. he got right back to me and said that he would take $200 for the saw. I asked Mrs.Trout and she said Happy Birthday.. so when I called the guy I find out the saw only works on a shopsmith. I went from excited to bummed real quick... after that I went over to ebay and found a couple Hawks...there was a G-4 that had just been posted so I put in a $100 bid, today the saw is up to $600 so that saw is out... there was one other saw listed on craigslist that interested me , a new DeWalt for $400 so today I offered $250 and that I would give the saw a good home..I haven't heard back...yet Scrollit, get the saw.... Trout Thanks for that I appreciate it...... Just as a side note....when I get into something I do a TON of research...with that said I would deff have to question a Hawk only working on a Shopsmith... I dont even know how they would be compatible....but I could be wrong....if it was me I would pick up the phone and call RBI and ask them....it may even be worth a trip over to the guys place to see if he knows what he is talking about. In my experience with Shopsmith's....only "SHOPSMITH" tools are compatible with them...correct me if I'm wrong! Let me know how it goes!! Good Luck! Jeff |

Ok Trout.... As you can tell you got my wheels turnin'.....I found that Clist ad.....Ive never seen anything like that....maybe the guy just modified it himself...there is a pretty good possibility you could still use it by re-modifying it back to its original state...you may just need to order some new legs and see if you could round up a used motor if it need one? Might be worth a try...anyway here are the pics of the droid if anyone else has any suggestions let Trout know...lets help him in his quest!! Jeff ![]() |
