Default Welcome Home DW788!

I got my new saw tonight! YIPPEE!!!!! I can't say enough good about it. It's like going from a Gremlin to a Mercedes, at least to me. When I first turned it on, I started cracking up laughing because it was so quiet I was in absolute disbelief. Since the Delta was causing the blade to go side to side, I had to get out my ruler and watch the this new blade again in disbelief of it's up and down accuracy. It didn't budge side to side. Also, there is a remarkable difference in the front to back rocking action. There practically is no front to back motion at all.

I was a little leary about the so called blade clamps since they are wing-nut style screws, but after installing my first blade, I was sold. The clamps are very secure and easy to tighten and loosen with no tools. Super! The table has a 45° tilt left and right and it's so interesting how the table tilts in reference to the hole where the blade is. There isn't any removeable thingy (whatever that thing is called) that sits just under the work area on the table.

All in all, I'm so happy that my two Deltas broke and I upgraded to the DeWalt. It's a little more than I wanted to spend, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run. Thanks to all of you for your input helping me decide which new saw to get. I'm sure when I can get some time in sawing (when my kids aren't on it) it'll be a very enjoyable experience. I'd be making sawdust now, but my daughter took over.

Congrats!
I can share your enthusiasm. After going though a similar experience with two bad deltas I was amazed when got the DeWalt. Told my wife the difference between that and the previous saws was like going from a toy to a serious professional quality tool. It makes the whole experience much better, if I had stayed with a cheaper saw I dont think scroll sawing would be something that I would do nearly as much as I do now.

Congrats on your new saw Mia! I can relate to everything your feeling regarding the difference between saws. I know you and your new DeWalt will have many happy hours together.
Now go make some sawdust!

Way to go Mia. I'm happy for you. I just hope your daughter lets you take a turn. You may have to send her to the mall this weekend.

Glad you got your saw - I went from a delta to a DW788 too and you're right - there is no comparison.

Hope you manage to get our turn on the saw...

Mind you if your daughter can turn out things like that corian clock, maybe she should be selling them and saving up to by her own ....

Hi Mia, it looks like you are going to have to get another saw for yourself. I think that your daughter has taken over on this one. hehe Glad you got it!!! Steve
