Recon Dewalt 788 - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Message Board

I've been pining (no pun intended) for a Dewalt saw to add to my shop. I now have a Delta 16" VS that I've used for 10 yrs or so. This would be a MAJOR upgrade for me. I've used a Dewalt before and really love it, especially since the reviews have been positive.

Anyway, the question: Has anyone dealt with Toolking? They have a recon 788 for $349 + $8 s/h. I've searched eBay and found used ones going for as much as a brand new one! There was one guy that had one for $255, but he wanted over $100 s/h! He's in Buffalo, I'm near Syracuse...150 miles.

I'm he77 bent on a 788 and Toolking seems to have the best price. Any comments on Toolking or recon saws?

Thanks in advance from one who's tired of having to chase my saw across the shop.

I bought a recond 788 from Harbor Freight a few years ago and have had no problem with it at all. I know others were having problems with ones that were made over seas I believe. I checked mine and it was made in Canada. Usually any recond stuff still has the factory warrenty on it. I don't mind buying recond tools at all. As far as Toolking goes, I have not delt with them at all. Hope this helps you out.

Having worked in manufacturing environments, I actually favor "factory reconditioned" items because they will have been inspected 100%, unlike the original items.

John Tool King through Amazon.com is where I got my 788 in Dec last year I received great service and had my saw 1 week after I ordered it fat service IMO and best of all they have a 30 day money back guarantee IIRC and it also came with a 1 year Dewalt guarantee

that saw in buffalo I saw. the stand is going for way cheap. I would suggest taking a drive to buffalo. I have done i before where I msg the person selling and offer to meet them either half way or most of the way. it is worth the look. I am in corning, ny and may have a dremel 1800 up for sale pretty cheap if you are interested I work in Ithaca. I would hold our for the dewalt though.
Also another point on the dewalt. I am not sure how your credit is but what i try to do is buy things through bill me later, right now they have a deal where you pay same as cash if paid in full within 90 days. I know woodcraft, toolking, and grizzly all offer that option for payment.

I bought the reconditioned Dewalt 788 from Tool King about six months ago. You are correct about it being the best deal for a reconditioned Dewalt for I looked around and could not find a better deal. It comes with a one year warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee.

I received my Dewalt from them in about a week and I found that although there was no evidence on the exterior of the box the knob that tightens the trunnion for the table adjustment was broken and the trunnion was bent.

I contacted Tool King and they were very good about it . They offered to send another saw or to send the parts and I opted for the parts because the saw checked out OK otherwise.

Several months later I developed a vibration that turned out to be a loose screw on the connecting rod. It was not noticeable when moving linkages but sure made a rackett when it was running. I tightened it and it was like a brand new saw and quieter and smoother than when I first received it and is still running great.

Bottom line, Yes I recommend Tool King. They are very good to work with from my experience..

Well folks, it's all going to have to wait for a few more weeks

. My poor pussy cat got sick and I had to take him to the vet, $250 later, they found he has kidney stones, gave me meds for him and told me to check back in a couple months. Anyway, I'm just hoping ToolKing has a saw with my name on it then. They seem to have them, then not have them. I think it has something to do with the popularity of the 788. If, when I can scrape up the denaro again, they have one, it's MINE, MINE, ALL MINE!! Thanks for all the input`, I will keep y'all posted.
