I was looking at handheld electric planers on Ebay and Amazon.com. I'm considering buying one for planing down 1/4" lumber to 3/16", since you can't buy 3/16" anywhere that I know of. They would mainly be used for my electrical covers. I think 1/4" is a bit thick and 1/8" is too thin. The planers have a working width of about 3 1/4", which would be good. The big name planers sell for well over $100 but Amazon has a GMC planer for $45 with free shipping. Six of the 7 reviews were good. However, I was wondering if anyone else has ever used tools made in Australia. I didn't realize they even made tools. If they are well made it could be an excellent alternative for tools made in China and Taiwan.

Mike, I picked up a combination disc- belt sander made by GMC for $25. Let's just say you get what you pay for. It has Melbourne Australia printed on it and down in the corner of the label ( Made in China ). I thought the double drive 1/3 hp motor was worth the money if the sander part does not hold up. Steve
