I'm just wondering how many brands of bladse there are that people know of. I know which blades I like best and will continue to use but am curious how many other brands are around. Do several of the companies advertising sell the same brand? Like do several companies import the same brand and have permission to relabel with their own branding label? After all some machinery sellers do just this as I found out in recent times when buying a disk sander.

Teresa, I only know of a few, Flying Dutchmon mike@mikesworkshope.com Olson, and Scroll America. you can shop online at bladevaluesdirect.com youll have to copy and past into your address barr. also the Pegus blades. which i don't know there web. I have tryed many. even the ones at home depot. they all work. but some just work better with differant projects. you just have to try them all in differant sizes. and teeth per inch. and see which ones you like the best. I am sure there are alot of copey cats. but i sure don't know that. does this help??? your friend Evie Last edited by minowevie; 07-31-2006 at 04:47 AM. |

The question got me curious, so I let my fingers do the Googleing. Apart from ones already mentioned, these are a few other brands I found. I have no experience with any of them, just adding to the list. Niqua Artisan Shark Galaxy

as emailed to me... read on.... There are three companies. Haunstettter who makes the blades for Olson. Niqua who makes the blades for me and for many others, Like Advance Machinery. Than there is a Swiss company who made blades for the Jeweler industry and now makes a blades for scrollers, called Pegas and imported by Grobet, who does most of there business with the jeweler industries. Delta, Dremel and many stores, like, Home Depot, Lowe's and other wood working stores all sell Olson blades but under their own name or Olson name. Wildwood and many other catalog companies sell the Niqua blades but also under different names. The Eberlee blade is also made by Haunstetter. |

When I first started scrolling the only blades I could find came in a red package from most department stores. They had an American name which I won't mention it because I don't like to kick someone when they are down. They were atrocious. You could cut better with a piece of dental floss. The sad thing is most new scrollers are introduced to the hobby with these blades. The cost of the blades was surprisingly around the same, if not more than good quality blades. I would love to see the blades put to a test in our favorite magazine. Not to say which blade is the best because that will always be a matter of personal preference but to see the characteristics of each blade.

One more manufacturer who makes a lot of blades (not good blades, but blades) for a lot of house brands is Vermont American. Seems they always get neglected to be mentioned. They are the largest manufacturer of power tool accesories in the world (blades and bits).

Thanks for the replies. People are very helpful here on the forum. I think this summarises what has been said. If not, feel free to edit. There are 4 manufacturers from which others purchase and sometimes re-brand: 1. Haunstettter - Olson blades (blades from Delta, Dremel and many stores, like, Home Depot, Lowe's and other wood working stores all sell Olson blades but under their own name or Olson's name). Eberlee. 2. Niqua - Advance Machinery blades. Wildwood blades (some may be under different names). Flying Dutchman? 3. A Swiss company - blades for the Jeweller industry. Pegas. Imported by Grobet 4. Vermont American |
